Bircher Bowls

One of our favourite make-ahead breakfast recipes that’s always a hit with the Essendon AFL team are our Bircher bowls.

They are a fantastic way to start the day, packed with nutrients to keep you going strong. 

Plus, they're super easy to make at home!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rolled oats (not quick oats)
  • 1 grated apple
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1/2 cup yoghurt
  • 1/2 cup mix of any nuts and seeds you like (we love roasted almond slivers, pepita, shredded coconut, and pumpkin seeds)
  • A little cinnamon
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Combine the rolled oats, grated apple, apple juice, yoghurt, and your chosen mix of nuts and seeds in a bowl.
  2. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon and a pinch of salt.
  3. Mix it all together until well combined.
  4. Store in the fridge, where it will keep for up to 5 days.

Pro Tip: As the oats continue to absorb the liquid, you might need to add some extra water or juice each day to maintain the desired consistency.
